It’s 39th Earth Day today!

Earth Day is celebrated to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year. This date is Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. The United Nations celebrates an Earth Day each year on the March equinox, which is often March 20, a tradition which was founded by peace activist John McConnell in 1969.

Lot of programs get arranged all over the world. To find the events & campaigns visit, http://www.earthday.net/earthday2009

http://www.energystar.gov/ This website provides tips on how to save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.

Recently I came across a site on which you get information about waste management & recycling. If you want to recycle specific waste ex. Electronics, CDs, glass etc; you have to type your location & type of waste it gives you nearby recycling location. Presently on this site recycling locations in US, Canada & Japan are given. I have requested them to create the country option for UAE so that I can feed the recycling locations. There are plenty of recycling locations in UAE, near to Parks, Malls, Creek, Cornish, beaches. I have uploaded the quick window to find recycling locations from same site, please scroll down to the bottom of blog for it.

Some quick ideas to celebrate Earth Day,
-Collect your household waste & recycle it
- Clean up Community Park, beach, lakes and rivers
- Plant trees & vegetation
- Pledge some of our Green habits
- Spread the awareness of Earth Day
- Make every day earth day!
